When it comes to scenic drives in Italy, I’d be surprised to find one as beautiful as this. The route from Lake Como Region to South Tyrol is roughly a 4.5 hour drive – worth every single second. Heading north out of Varenna, go di Como e dello Spluga and SS38 to Castione Andevenno. Take SS38, SS39, SS42, SS43, A22/E45, SS12 and SS242 to Strada Rezia in Ortisei
The drive is distractingly beautiful. Every bend of the road unwraps a series of unique visual gifts. Take your time here so you can be fully present to the experience.
Traveling through small towns, there are many places to stop and explore. Watch for trees heavy with apples as you make your way along.
