We’ve arrived!
Travel at a glance: Left San Diego at 1pm Thursday; arrived LA before 3pm! No traffic. Left LAX at 6pm and arrived Heathrow at 12:24pm. Took the loooooooong walk to customs (probably will find out that there is a quicker way) then the looooooooooong walk to the trains. Took the express train to Paddington and then the tube to Kensington High street. Bought an Oyster card – kids are free but good luck getting them through the stile. Got my rolling luggage stuck and set off the alarm; meanwhile, I have 1 kid with me and 2 on the other side. Need to learn to blend in more. Arrived on Iverna Court in S. Kensington – a short walk from the tube station. Found my brother Greg’s place very easily…wow it is pretty here. We are taking a refreshment break and then we are going out to explore. It is 3pm now so we’ll see if we can get to Hyde Park and Tesco (the local grocery). Greg expects to be home after 9pm – I barely slept on the plane so I will be struggling to stay up.
About the plane trip – many of you know that I loathe air travel. Well this was non-stop turbulence until we passed Greenland and was over the Atlantic. Had one of those frantic plane shakes followed by an abrupt lift and a concerning fall. Bryce thought it was cool. Kyle slept through it. Let me tell you … Kyle is our traveler. He fell asleep right at 8pm and slept through all but the last hour … even through the bad bouts of turbulence.
Interesting trivia – Kirsi was on our flight. Saw her at the line for the loo (yes, loo I am in England now) on the plane. She is on her way to Finland. So, we weren’t the only one’s grabbing our kids from school and then dashing up to LA to catch a nonstop to London!
OK everyone is itching to explore….
