Now that Connor was in the country, we had a few pre-trips to squeeze in before heading to our next destination: Switzerland.
Tavira
The Feira da Dieta Mediterrânica filled the streets of Tavira. I really wanted to see the giant animated snail making its way along the river, but we were running late. Connor and I got dropped off and found the caracol just as it reached the old bridge. Wandering back to our pickup spot, we came across a few other creative characters along the way.

West Algarve Tour
The western Algarve got the whirlwind treatment: Seven Hanging Valleys, Sagres, and Porches. A little hiking, a bit of driving, and plenty to see along the way.

Silves
When in doubt, go to Silves. Once the Moorish capital of the Algarve, Silves overlooks the Arade River. Its red sandstone castle dominates the hilltop, with ancient walls, impressive views, and narrow streets winding through the town.

Alentejo
After day-tripping around the Algarve, we headed into the Alentejo. First stop was Beja, where we visited the castle. There’s always a castle, isn’t there?

Next, we headed to Évora, our destination for the night, and went straight for — yes, another castle. Wandering through the public park, we spotted a few peacocks.

The next day we flight from Lisbon to Geneva.
