Today we have two walking tours — in Belém, and central Lisbon.
But first Breakfast
We are staying in a cute boutique hotel and breakfast is included.
A Walk in the Neighborhood
After breakfast, we took a walk around the neighborhood. Looking for some hand soap and Tylenol lead us here.

Belém Walking Tour
Raffaele, originally from Naples, was our awesome tour guide today. This was a small tour — us and a couple from D.C. We started the tour in Jardim Afonso de Albuquerque and from there, we headed toward the Belém Tower. After a bit of Belém history, our first stop was Pastéis de Belém to sample the pastry only made here. Only at the Pastéis de Belém factory, next to the Monastery, are Pastéis de Belém made anywhere else it is called Pastel de Nat.
From there, we learned a bit more history then visited Igreja dos Jerónimos. The monastery had a long line and our guide said that there’s not much to see inside, so we went into the church instead.
Next, we headed toward the Tagus River. Here, we see monuments for the great navigators as well as a bridge that looks remarkably similar to the Golden Gate Bridge. Then we continue to the tower, walking along the river. Belém Tower has a long queue to go inside, so we didn’t do that, but we could literally walk right up to it!.
Lisbon Walking Tour
This tour started at 5pm and we got finished just before 9pm! I’ll do a separate post for it.
Unexpected things
Didn’t expect to see this sign. Home of the “whoppá”
Next up
We head to Lagos tomorrow. Had planned a sunset tour of Sagres, but the weather will not be safe (45 mph winds, cloudy) so the tour company canceled it.
